Jennia's Recipe for Pre-packed lunches

Go to Costco or another warehouse club and buy:
1) (or make) bread
2) sandwich makings (I use bologna and cheese and PB&J)
3) fruit cups
4) apple sauce
5) plastic spoons
6) chips, nuts, pretzels, peanut butter and cracker snacks or plain crackers
7) "dessert" type items (twinkies, cookies, fruit snacks, etc)
8) a large package of ziploc bags (sandwich size)
9) a large package of lunch size paper bags
10) a package of napkins
11) stickers to decorate the bags (optional)
12) a "flat" juice boxes

Then:
1)Decide how many lunches you want to make at once. I like to do at least a month's worth or about 20 lunches at one time.
2) set out 20 (or whatever number you decide on) lunch bags on a table- decorate them if desired
3) place a napkin in each bag
4) place 10 packages chips in the bags/ place 10 bags full of crackers in the other 10 bags
5) at random place applesauce in 10 bags and fruit cups in 10 bags
6) place dessert at random in 6 or 7 of the 20 bags (I don't want my son to have dessert everyday- YOU may wish to gove a dessert more often or less often or skip it altogether)
7) place your 20 pre-made lunches on a shelf where they are handy or in a box- whatever works for you

Next- place one of the packages of 10 juice boxes out of the larger package into your fridge. When this package is gone put the next package of 10 into the fridge

Then:
1) layout 40 pieces of bread (if your child only eats half sandwiches you will want to cut these numbers in half)
2) make 10 bologna and cheese sandwiches with NO mayo (mayo will make it soggy)
3) make 10 PB&J sandwiches- but place a thin layer of peanut butter on BOTH pieces of bread and jelly on top of the peanut butter (if you place jelly on the bread first it will get soggy)
4) if your little one cannot eat a whole sandwich either use the Pampered Chef dumpling thingie and cut each sandwich into a round and bag OR cut each sandwich in half and bag each half separately. Toss all of your sandwiches in the freezer.

Next month when it is time to "build" more lunches simply assess your supplies and see if you need to make cookies, buy fruit cups, etc., or if you have enough supplies left to make another round of lunches. After stocking up I can usually make 2 months worth of lunches before I need to restock everything.

Now on a school morning you simply grab your pre-made lunch bag and place a juice box in it (towards the bottom if possible) and toss in a sandwish from the freezer. My son is fairly picky but tolerates the freezer sandwiches just fine. Why do I make lunches like this?

1) I can buy big warehouse packages of the things I want and save $$
2) it creates variety in my son's lunch because I "mix and match" all of the lunch goodies otherwise I think lunches can get BORING!! <G>
3) in the AM it is faster to "make" my son's lunch than to find $1.25 for him to buy lunch!! <G>

This system might not work for you but it has been GREAT for me. I only make lunches 8 days and that covers the WHOLE school year. Another plus.... if you head out on day trips you can grab a sack lunch for those as well!! <G>
